President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with the Government and people of Ogun State over the death of former First Lady of the state and matriarch of the Onabanjo family, Chief Lucia Onabanjo.
Chief Onabanjo, wife of the late former civilian Governor of Ogun State, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo, passed away on Monday, January 12, at the age of 101.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, and signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed condolences to the Onabanjo family, friends, and associates of the deceased.
The President described Chief Onabanjo as a compassionate woman whose investments in humanity positively touched many lives within her community, Ogun State, and the nation at large, noting the overwhelming testimonies that followed her passing.
“Lucia Onabanjo’s strong support for her husband during his tenure as Ogun State Governor between 1979 and 1983 was commendable, while her keen interest in children’s welfare and women empowerment was exemplary,” Tinubu said.
He noted that her legacy of charity and kindness would continue to resonate and urged the Ogun State Government and the Onabanjo family to immortalise her by promoting her enduring love for the poor and vulnerable.
President Tinubu also prayed for the repose of her soul and asked God to grant strength and comfort to her family.
