President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s Service Chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri and take charge of the security response following a series of bomb attacks that killed more than 20 people and injured over 100 others.
The directive comes amid rising concerns over renewed violence in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, where the attacks occurred.
In a statement issued shortly before departing for an official visit to the United Kingdom, Tinubu condemned the incidents and expressed sympathy for the victims.
“The recent news from Maiduguri is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives and sympathise with the injured,” the President said, adding that the government stands with the people of Borno State.
Tinubu described the attacks as attempts by insurgents to spread fear, insisting that security forces remain under pressure to contain such threats.
“These acts are desperate attempts by terrorist elements trying to instil fear as they face sustained operations from our armed forces,” he said.
The President also confirmed that additional military equipment and operational support had been approved to strengthen ongoing security efforts. According to him, the measures are already being implemented.
He commended security personnel for repelling coordinated assaults on military formations in the state, noting that troops have continued to resist insurgent attacks.
“I must commend the courage of our troops who successfully repelled these attacks,” he said.
Tinubu further directed emergency response agencies to ensure proper medical care for those injured, while reiterating the government’s resolve to tackle terrorism nationwide.
“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will confront and defeat them,” he added.
