Tragedy Strikes: Gunmen Kill Two Soldiers at Army Checkpoint

Two soldiers lost their lives during an early morning attack on an army checkpoint at the Imo/Abia boundary community of Ekenobizi in Umuopara, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State. The incident occurred at approximately 6:18 am on Wednesday when gunmen arrived in a white Lexus (350/400) model .

According to Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Unuakhalu, spokesperson for the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA, the attack was carried out by the Indigenous People of Biafara and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network. Despite the troops’ valiant efforts to repel the attack, two soldiers paid the ultimate price .

He urged residents of Abia State to provide any relevant information that could aid in apprehending the perpetrators and eradicating the criminal elements in the region .

“The gallant troops were able to repel the attack, forcing the irredentists to withdraw in disarray with gunshot wounds, abandoning one Sienna and one Lexus Jeep vehicles used for the attack,” Unuakhalu stated.

The military has reassured its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, adhering to global best practices and the rules of engagement guiding its operations.
