A devastating tragedy has unfolded in Enugu State, Nigeria, where a father, Uwakwe Eze, 67, and a native doctor, Enuwa Odugu, 48, have been arrested for conspiracy and murder.
The victim, Chikwado Celestine Eze, 26, had just secured a visa to travel abroad and returned to his village to share the news with his father. However, his father insisted on a fortification ritual to ensure his success overseas, which ended in disaster.
In a shocking turn of events, the native doctor allegedly claimed that Chikwado needed to be buried alive for 1 hour and 30 minutes to be properly fortified.
“Tragically, when Chikwado was exhumed after the stipulated time, he was found dead. The native doctor has confessed to the crime, attributing the death to Chikwado’s non-adherence to certain ritualistic rules”.
According to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer,
“The incident is alleged to have occurred when Uwakwe Eze took his son to the native doctor’s shrine for a ritual intended to fortify him with charms. However, during the ritual, the deceased was buried in a coffin but he unfortunately died in the process.”
The case is currently under investigation, and the suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded “.
