The relationship between the various FCT transport unions like the self employed commercial drivers association,( SECDA) national Union of road transport workers(NURTW)Road Transport Employer Association of Nigeria(RTEAN)luxurious bus owners association(LUXBON) and others and the FCT directorate of road traffic services got a thumb up after a meeting held in Mabushi.
The representatives of the various transport unions appealed for route extension to the city centre particularly for coaster buses whose initial terminal points were Outskirts like Nyanya.
After the meeting, the director of the fct DRTS Dr Abdul Lateef Bello , considered their plea and expanded their scope to asokoro but on a second thought, the deputy director operations Mrs Deborah appealed to the director to further extend their route to the Federal secretariat where they can terminate and reload to Nyanya and adjoining axis.
The head of the FCT Ministerial task team Mr Shehu Adam, also solicited for a more route opening as presented by the deputy director operations.
The meeting ended with both parties exchanging pleasantries. The fct transport scope and architecture collaborates with the various transport unions to ensure compliance on route restrictions. In a recently held fct transport stakeholders summit at the NAF conference centre Abuja, the fct DRTS and the transport unions made seperate presentations on how to restructure the transport sector. So far,the city centre lacks enough parking and dropping spaces an error made from the original master plan.
The head of the fct Ministerial task team Mr Adam Shehu faces challenges of always moving with his combine team to guide against illegal parking and ensuring compliance to route restrictions.
