Two students of Federal University Gusau in Zamfara state became victims of abduction on Saturday night.
The unfortunate incident unfolded within their off-campus hostel in the Sabon Gariamba area of Gusau, just a short distance from the university’s permanent site, occurring at approximately 9 p.m.
Eyewitnesses reported that in an attempt to deter the bandits, security personnel discharged several gunshots.
“The bandits were undeterred and successfully made off with the two students.
The bandits initiated their attack on the community shortly after 8 p.m., using indiscriminate gunfire to intimidate the locals.
“Security forces promptly responded with a barrage of shots to repel the assailants, but regrettably, the bandits were able to seize the two students.
An anonymous resident, voicing security concerns, informed Channels TV that a joint operation involving the police and military forces was launched to pursue the bandits.
A previous incident last month resulted in an unspecified number of students from the University being kidnapped by the bandits.
The Nigerian Army was successful in rescuing thirteen of the abducted students, primarily females, during the last incident.
