The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Nigeria have taken a significant step toward bolstering their bilateral relations, with both nations pledging to strengthen economic cooperation and foster sustainable development.
During a bilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday night, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu explored avenues for mutual growth, focusing on investment opportunities and climate action.
The meeting coincided with President Tinubu’s participation in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, an event aimed at addressing global challenges such as climate change and energy transitions.
President Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s recent economic reforms, which he said are attracting significant foreign investment and fostering renewed confidence in the country’s potential. He urged the UAE to deepen its partnership with Nigeria, particularly in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and technology.
In response, President Al Nahyan reaffirmed the UAE’s readiness to collaborate with Nigeria and expressed optimism about the prospects of enhanced economic ties. He also accepted Tinubu’s invitation to visit Nigeria in 2025, marking a potential milestone in the two nations’ relationship.
The discussions come as both countries seek to leverage shared interests to address pressing global challenges. Tinubu lauded the UAE’s leadership in organizing the Sustainability Week, emphasizing the importance of collective action to achieve sustainable development.
Accompanied by senior government officials, including Nigeria’s Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar and Finance Minister Wale Edun, Tinubu underscored Nigeria’s strategic importance as Africa’s largest economy. Meanwhile, the UAE delegation included top-ranking officials such as Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
As the leaders concluded their discussions, they expressed mutual commitment to translating their dialogue into concrete outcomes, signaling a new chapter in Nigeria-UAE relations.
