He accuses them of a prior incident where they allegedly kidnapped him and took all his money. The confrontation has drawn widespread attention, highlighting ongoing concerns about police brutality and corruption in Nigeria.

This incident echoes numerous reports of police misconduct in the country. For instance, in December 2021, a man named Solomon Buchi recounted how he and his brother were allegedly abducted by men suspected to be operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police. They were reportedly extorted of N550,000 after being accused of unfounded crimes and subjected to inhumane treatment.
The Nigerian Police Force has faced longstanding criticism over such abuses. The disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in 2020, following the #EndSARS protests, was a response to widespread allegations of extrajudicial killings, torture, and extortion by the unit. However, despite the official dissolution of SARS, reports of similar abuses persist, suggesting systemic issues within the police force especially among the youth .
