Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said every individual should embrace their cultural diversity.
He added that multiculturalism was designed for mankind by God.
He stated this during his keynote address at the 2023 World Culture Festival in Washington DC.
Obasanjo noted that multiculturalism “must be cherished, jealously guarded, and sustained by the people.
In his address, he underlined the significance of embracing this diversity, noting that God has granted us life in a world marked by diversity and multiculturalism.
Obasanjo went on to say, “Some would want to blame these on diversity or multiculturalism. That, if I may say, is wrong.” He stressed that despite the advancement of science and technology, human instincts for power, position, and prosperity remain largely unchanged.
He concluded by acknowledging the gathering of about 180 countries at the festival, stating, “To have gathered with about 180 countries is to acknowledge and celebrate the diversity which is of God. God is a God of diversity and not of sameness”, he said.
