Women of Dignity & Girls of Honour Empowerment Initiative (WODGOH) has intensified its menstrual hygiene advocacy with outreach programmes in Abuja, which is aimed at improving menstrual health awareness and supporting girls with essential hygiene products.
As part of its June 2026 activities, the organisation visited Guto Community and Junior Secondary School, Bwari Central, where it educated girls on menstrual health and distributed sanitary pads to encourage safe menstrual hygiene practices.
The first outreach was held in Guto Community, bringing together adolescent girls and young women for an awareness session on menstrual health.
The participant received information on menstrual hygiene, debunking common misconceptions about menstruation and encouraging healthy practices.
A total of 52 sanitary pads were distributed during the community programme.
One of the beneficiaries, Amina, recounted that she had relied on pieces of cloth during her menstrual period because she could not afford sanitary pads. After the session, she received sanitary pads and gained practical knowledge on menstrual hygiene, a development the organisation said would help her make healthier choices.
WODGOH continued the campaign on June 18 at Junior Secondary School, Bwari Central, where female students were educated on menstrual health management, personal hygiene, the proper use and disposal of sanitary pads, and the importance of overcoming stigma associated with menstruation.
To support the initiative, the organisation distributed 100 sanitary pads to the students. Additional sanitary pads were also donated to the girl’s changing room to ensure that students who unexpectedly begin their menstrual cycle while in school have access to hygiene products.
According to WODGOH, its intervention is driven by the belief that menstruation should never prevent girls from accessing education or living healthy lives.
The organisation called on individuals, corporate organisations and development partners to support efforts to eliminate period poverty by donating sanitary products, sponsoring awareness campaigns and partnering on community-based menstrual health programmes.
WODGOH said it remains committed to promoting the dignity, health and confidence of girls through sustained education, advocacy and practical support.
