A 14-year-old girl named Kate Ene David with an outstanding performance has outperformed 11,000 contestants to win a spelling bee competition in her home country – Nigeria.
Kate Ene David who represented Intimacy with Christ International School, Nigeria at the 2022 MTN Spelling Bee competition. She defeated 11,000 other student representatives of various schools across the country to clinch the gold prize.
Kate Ene David was appointed as a one-day Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Nigeria Telecommunications company. As part of the reward for her exceptional performance, She was also awarded a N2.5 million scholarship, a laptop, a smartphone, and an MTN goody bag.
The sponsors, MTN also awarded her English teacher a N350,000 grant as well as donated state-of-the-art ICT devices to her school at the competition.
Divine Capable Agbo, Rejoice Okechukwu and Ann Daniel, at the competition, were listed as the top 20 contestants and were the first, second and third runner-ups respectively. They were awarded scholarship awards prizes worth over N5.7 million.
Adia Sowho, The MTN Chief Officer, explained that the completion is aimed at promoting the idea that “digital education is one way in which we can encourage people to embrace the digital space and enjoy the benefits and convenience that come with it.”
The winner, Kate Ene David, said the journey was not easy, but she was committed to excellence.
