The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has revealed that approximately 16,000 families felt the impact of the 2022 floods, while 6,000 farmers suffered losses of various seedlings and farm produce in Lagos State.
The statement, issued by Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Coordinator of NEMA’s Lagos Territorial Office, highlighted the significant repercussions of the floods across different sectors of the economy in the state.
The Director-General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, called for solutions from other Nigerians.
“There is a need for a thorough reassessment of response efforts, identifying gaps, and advocating for more proactive participation from various stakeholders”, he said
Addressing the need to bolster preparedness for future incidents, the agency directed its Lagos Territorial Office and other NEMA field offices to focus on mitigating losses and strengthening the resilience of Nigerians ahead of the 2023 rainy season.
Farinloye acknowledged the participation of stakeholders and pledged support for capacity building initiatives, including the ongoing plans for water rescue and safety retraining at federal and state levels.
