50 Food Trucks Bound for Niger Republic Intercepted by Zamfara State Transport Agency

Zamfara State Transport Agency has  obstructed  fifty trucks conveying foodstuffs out of the country to Niger Republic.

The agency acted according to the directive giving by the president to stop hoarding and exporting of food to other countries which was given at the president’s meeting with the governors in Abuja, on the current food crises and famine in the land .

The hike in food stuffs cost is due to the fact that farmers can’t harvest their crops because of bandits and kidnappers ,and  fuel subsidy removal .

Shehu Sani an eye witness claimed that the 50 trucks were intercepted at Gidan Jaja village , near the border of Nigeria and Niger Republic.

Shinkafi, spokesman for Zarto stated that 

“ our men intercepted 50 vehicles loaded with assorted grains while trying to smuggle them out of the country .

We directed the owners to go back and sell the commodities to Nigerians at the appropriate prices”.

The farmers association of Nigeria blamed wholesalers, who buys food in large quantities of food from local farmers and takes these products to countries such as Niger , Cameroon and others .

Recall that the  Nigeria customs service  stopped 15 trailers conveying foodstuffs through the sokoto borders to Niger Republic
