A 46-year-old health worker, Akinola Oyabiyi, was reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen near Akure Airport at Eleyowo in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening while Oyabiyi was returning home.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident and stated that the command is investigating the matter. “We are on top of the matter, and will get back to you soon,” she said.
The incident is the latest in a series of attacks in the same local government area, including the abduction of a farm manager and two industrial training students, as well as the killing of five farm workers.
According to a family member, Oyabiyi was attacked by the gunmen, who allegedly attempted to kidnap him. “He was shot in the belly and died shortly after. We learnt the bandits came out from the bush and shot him in his car,” the family member said.
