The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has hinted at a possible run in the 2027 election while stressing that his ambition will not stand in the way of Nigeria’s progress.
Adebayo made this statement during the Sunday edition of Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, a socio-political program broadcast on Channels Television.
He stated that while he is working towards his ambition, he acknowledges that only God determines the future.
“It is my prayer to God that if there is a person who God thinks is better than me to fix the problem of Nigeria, my ambition should not stop that person because we want a country that works,” Adebayo said.
Speaking on the country’s political landscape, Adebayo highlighted the need for unity amid growing ethnic and religious tensions, stating that the SDP seeks to offer a leadership choice that resonates with all Nigerians.
He also addressed the increasing tensions surrounding religious and ethnic divisions in Nigeria, noting that discussions that were once straightforward have now become sensitive. According to him, the SDP aims to provide a platform that unites Nigerians rather than divides them.
“What we are looking for now is a system where when we make a choice in the SDP, there will be resounding joy outside the SDP, and Nigerians will say: ‘Okay, finally, this platform has given the country a chance’,” he added.
