A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has expressed deep concern over the state of democracy under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing the current situation as worse than dictatorship.
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief Monday, Momodu, a veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, said he was “very embarrassed” by the turn of events, given Tinubu’s history as a pro-democracy activist. He recalled their time together in exile, emphasizing Tinubu’s past role in fighting for democracy.
“I think it is very unfortunate. I know President Tinubu very, very, very well. Though I’ve not been in the same party with him, we were together in exile, and he fought gallantly for this democracy,” Momodu stated.
He urged Tinubu to uphold democratic values and avoid actions that could undermine Nigeria’s democratic system.
“I’m pleading with President Bola Tinubu, ‘Please don’t kill democracy in Nigeria.’ Everybody who loves him will tell him this,” he added.
