The Federal Ministry of Education has approved the promotion and confirmation of 47 senior staff members of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), despite the agency operating without a Governing Board since March 2021.
This development, announced in a statement by the Board’s Head of Media, Fatimah Abubakar, highlights efforts to maintain operational efficiency within the NBTE. The ministry’s decision was communicated through a letter dated March 13, 2025, and signed by Omotayo F. Adeyemi, the Director of Human Resources.
Among those promoted, nine Acting Directors were confirmed as substantive Directors after undergoing a rigorous evaluation process, which included written examinations and an oral interview.
The statement also expressed optimism that the Federal Government would soon constitute a new Governing Board for the NBTE to enhance its administrative and policy implementation processes.
“We are hopeful that President Bola Tinubu will set up a new Governing Board for the NBTE this year. This will enable the Board to function optimally and deliver on its mandate.” the statement read.
The NBTE plays a crucial role in overseeing technical and vocational education in Nigeria. The prolonged absence of its Governing Board has raised concerns about institutional governance, but the ministry’s recent action signals a commitment to sustaining the Board’s operational effectiveness.
