In a brazen assault, suspected members of the Iceland cult group attacked the Onelga Security Peace Advisory Committee (OSPAC) office in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State yesterday, resulting in the deaths of a vigilante operative and a police corporal.
According to a statement by the Rivers State Police Command, the assailants, led by individuals identified as Umegbewe Kingsley (alias ‘Gutam’) and one Opaka, stormed the OSPAC office adjacent to the Ahoada East Council Secretariat around 8 p.m., opening fire on the operatives.
“During the assault, OSPAC operative, Ngozi Ipah, was shot. While escaping, the assailants also gunned down a police officer, Corporal Francis Friday, who was on special duty at the secretariat with the Special Intervention Squad,” the statement read.
Police patrol teams, led by the Divisional Police Officer, responded swiftly to the scene, but the attackers had already fled. Both victims were rushed to the Ahoada General Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
