President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of new Service Chiefs as part of efforts to further strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President named General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
Major-General W. Shaibu was appointed as the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke takes over as Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas assumes the position of Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
President Tinubu, who serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership.
He charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by upholding professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship in the discharge of their duties.
“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement added.
Also the president confirmed the appointment in a statement signed by him.
The statement reads: I have approved changes in the hierarchy of our Armed Forces to further strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.
“I thank General Christopher Musa and the outgoing Service Chiefs for their selfless service and dedicated leadership, and I charge the new Service Chiefs to deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity within our Armed Forces as they serve our nation with honour.”
