Ahead of their opening match in the new Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign, members of Nigeria’s Super Eagles (class of 2024) have formally received their national honours certificates, housing allocations in Abuja or Lagos, and land grants in Abuja.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, had pledged these rewards following the team’s second-place finish at the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire, held in January and February 2024.
The presentation was conducted by National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Shehu Dikko, alongside a delegation including Senator Abdul Ningi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports; Hon. Kabiru Amadu, Chairman of the House Committee on Sports; CG of Customs Bashir Adewale; NFF President Ibrahim Gusau; SSA to the President Mrs. Nathan-Mash; Nigeria High Commission officials; and Mallam Saleh Amadu, among other dignitaries.
The brief ceremony took place at the team hotel in Fez, Morocco, on December 22, 2025.
During the presentation, NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko confirmed that all players will receive the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) honour, except for Ahmed Musa (@Ahmedmusa718) and Victor Osimhen (@victorosimhen9), who were awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) in recognition of prior MON awards. William Troost-Ekong (@WTroostEkong) was awarded the Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) for being named Player of the Tournament.
Dikko further stated that the national honours, housing, and land allocations approved by President Tinubu have been fully processed, with allocation letters issued in line with the President’s commitment to reward excellence and national service.
He also confirmed that similar rewards, houses, national honours, and cash awards equivalent to $100,000 USD awarded by President Tinubu to the Super Falcons and D’Tigers have been processed, with title documents and certificates available for collection.
The Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General of the Federation are finalizing direct cash payments to players’ accounts.
