The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Prof. Sunny Tyoden, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Plateau State and a respected academic.

In an official statement signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party described Prof. Tyoden as “a distinguished scholar and Professor of Political Economy, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, whose towering credentials and legacies as an intellectual powerhouse remain awe-inspiring.”

Prof. Tyoden served as Deputy Governor under former Governor Simon Lalong from 2015 to 2023. Prior to his political career, he was Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos from 2006 to 2011, where he made significant contributions to the institution’s development.

Morka highlighted Tyoden’s role as a grassroots mobilizer and philanthropist, stating, “An accomplished public servant who served as Deputy Governor to former Governor Simon Lalong for two consecutive terms, late Prof. Tyoden was a grassroots mobilizer whose philanthropic record was equally exceptional. He will be sorely missed.”

The APC extended its condolences to Prof. Tyoden’s family, friends, associates, and the people of Plateau State, praying for his soul to find eternal rest.
