Brigadier-General Babatunde Omopariola, Commander of the 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Katsina State, emphasized the importance of developmental journalism in combating insecurity.
He made this statement during a luncheon with members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Katsina State Council .
He noted that the media plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion and influencing military operations .
“The luncheon was organised specifically to provide a relaxed atmosphere for networking and active engagement between the Media and the Nigerian Armed Forces at large,” Omopariola said. He also stressed the need for embedding journalists in military operations to prevent negative reports and bridge the gap between the military and the media.
Omopariola challenged journalists to be patriotic and avoid reports that could harm national interest and security. He also paid tribute to fallen colleagues and assured that the brigade would continue to support their families.
Tukur Den-Ali, Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Katsina State Council, thanked the Brigade Commander for the warm reception and assured that journalists would partner with the brigade and other security agencies to promote interagency cooperation.
The event highlighted the importance of collaboration between the military and the media in tackling insecurity. By promoting developmental journalism, the Nigerian Army aims to foster a more positive and supportive relationship with the media, ultimately contributing to national security and stability.
