In a bid to alleviate the financial burdens faced by farmers in communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has announced a petrol subsidy for farmers. The subsidy will reduce the cost of petrol from N1,000 to N1,200 per litre to N600 per litre.
The announcement was made during the distribution of farm inputs to over 5,000 farmers displaced by Boko Haram insurgents in Bama town. The farm inputs included 380 units of solar water pumps, 1000 units of sprayers, 800 rolls of 2-inch flexible hoses, and 1000 litres of pesticides and seeds, among other items.
He stated that “Empowering our farmers is crucial to rebuilding our communities and revitalizing our economy, and we will continue to support them in every way possible.”
Governor Zulum expressed gratitude to the federal government for their support in reconstructing and resettling communities affected by insurgency.
He noted that the petrol subsidy is aimed at empowering farmers and revitalizing the economy in communities that have suffered economic and infrastructural destruction due to years of conflict.
