The Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), Mr. Auwal Rafsanjani, has called for the institutionalization of a centralized databank to ensure accurate information provision regarding human rights protection, abuse, and violation.
He said this step is crucial for informed interventions and necessary reforms in Defense and Security operations.
The Executive Director stated this in a communique issued at the end of a two day capacity building session for defence and security human rights desk officers, by CISLAC/Transparency International in Nigeria(TI- Nigeria) in collaboration with Transparency International -Defence and Security Program in Nasarawa state.
Rafsanjani stated that the participants emphasized the need for aggressive awareness, sensitization, and continuous training of Human Rights, SERVICOM, ACTU Desk Officers in the Defense and Security sector, and other relevant stakeholders.
“The training is aimed at enhancing their understanding of various instruments and legal provisions that protect human rights.
The collective oversight of Defense and Security agencies to uphold the principles and practice of human rights within constitutional and legal provisions was also stressed”, he said.
The participants, also advocated for improving the operational conditions and reviewing existing remunerations across Defense and Security agencies to reflect current realities.
“Stress management, post-trauma services, professionalism, and efficiency should be taken into consideration.
systemic corruption in the Defense and Security spheres through targeted and holistic reforms need to be addressed”, said the Executive Director.
