The Delta State Police Command has arrested over 30 suspects, including a young lady, Ms. Blessing Ibuku, who was accused of killing her 10-month-old baby, Prevail Jonathan. According to the state Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, Ibuku threw her child into a community river because she was mocked for being fatherless.
“These suspects were arrested in the past month. While we have faced challenges, the support of other security agencies, stakeholders, and the good people of Delta State has enabled us to restore peace to a reasonable extent,” Olufemi said.
The police recovered the child’s lifeless body from the Aviara community river and Ibuku confessed to the crime, stating that she acted due to mockery from friends. The suspect is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
In addition to Ibuku’s arrest, the police command also acted on a distress call regarding a kidnapping incident along DLA Road in Asaba, recovering an AK-47 rifle, two pump-action guns, and other ammunition. They also raided a hideout behind Anioma Market, Asaba, arresting 10 suspects linked to a series of robberies and recovering arms.
The command’s achievements include the arrest of 678 suspects and the recovery of 150 arms, including 32 AK-47 and AK-49 rifles, within the review period. Olufemi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents, calling for continued cooperation from the public in providing actionable information.
