DSS Warns of Imminent ISWAP Attacks in Ondo and Kogi States

The Department of State Services (DSS) has raised an alarm over intelligence reports indicating plans by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) to carry out coordinated attacks in Ondo and Kogi States.

According to a security alert signed by the State Director of Security, Ondo State Command, HI Kana, the terrorist group has identified several target locations and begun surveillance on potential soft targets in the affected areas.

The statement revealed that communities such as Eriti Akoko and Oyin Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government Area, as well as Owo town in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, have been marked as possible targets.

The DSS emphasized the urgent need to increase the level of security alertness across communities in both Ondo and Kogi States to prevent any potential attacks.

“It was further gathered that the groups have commenced surveillance on potential soft targets in the above-mentioned locations. Consequently, there is need to scale up the level of security alertness in the various communities to forestall any untoward situation,” the statement read in part.

The security agency assured residents that necessary measures are being taken and urged continuous cooperation with law enforcement authorities to ensure safety and peace in the region.
