The Edo state governments has directed schools to remain closed until further notice due to the effect of petrol price hike.
The government urged parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children and wards closely.
The Permanent Ministry of Education, Ojo Akin-Longe, stated this in a statement titled, the postponement of resumption of all public and private schools has been postponed “until further notice”.
The statement read in part “An official statement from the government has directed that schools remain closed due to the tension from the recent increase in fuel prices and the challenges faced by parents and guardians.
“The government urged parents, guardians and caregivers to monitor the activities of their children and wards closely, given the current situation and the rising tension caused by the fuel price hike.”
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) recently increased the pump price of petrol to ₦855 across its retail outlets amid long queues at filling stations.
The increase by the state oil company has cumulated in an equal increase by independent petroleum marketers to above ₦900 per litre, with black marketers selling above ₦1000 per litre.
