The Federal Government has launched the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, a new initiative aimed at expanding access to laptops, internet-enabled devices and other digital tools through structured consumer credit.
The programme, unveiled on Monday, July 21, by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, is expected to improve digital inclusion, support local manufacturing and strengthen Nigeria’s technology ecosystem.
Speaking at the launch held at the Afreximbank African Trade Centre (AATC) in Abuja, the organisers said the initiative is designed to make it easier for Nigerians to access the digital tools they need “to learn, work and earn.”
As part of the first phase of implementation, the programme will provide 1,000 locally assembled laptops to eligible LearnEarn fellows across the country. The first batch of 77 beneficiaries received their laptops during the launch ceremony in Abuja.
According to the organisers, the initiative combines consumer credit with digital access, enabling more Nigerians to acquire essential technology without the burden of upfront costs.
The C.L.I.C.K.D. Programme is also expected to boost demand for locally assembled devices, encourage indigenous technology production and expand opportunities for digital skills development and participation in the digital economy.
The Federal Government said the initiative aligns with its broader efforts to deepen financial inclusion, increase access to technology and create pathways for more Nigerians to participate in the country’s growing digital economy.
