The Federal Government has pledged to boost smart education in Nigeria for both teachers and students, bringing them at par with their counterparts globally.
The Minister of Education, Pro. Tahir Mamman made this known at the commissioning of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Digital Resource Center (DRC) on Thursday in Kado, Abuja.
He emphasized by saying that about 10,000 teachers are already undergoing training at the Digital Resource Centre in preparation for the commencement of the 37 Smart Schools across the 36 states of the Federation and FCT.
“Currently we have close to a 10,000 teachers already undergoing training”.
The facility came at a much better time and it will be monitored to ensure that the facility receives the appropriate upgrading for effective services delivery.
“Education is above all, so this is why this facility wouldn’t have come at a better time for us.We will monitor to ensure that the facility receives the appropriate upgrading for delivery of services both in terms of content and modern delivery”, he added.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Education, Senator Lawal Adamu also applauded UBEC for the digital resource centre, stating that a smart education centre was key to global development.
In the same vein, the Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr.Hamid Bobboyi noted that the mandate of the commission is to support and coordinate Equitable, Accessable and Quality Education to all Nigerian Children.
“As we are all aware UBEC has a mandate to support and coordinate equitable, accessable and quality Education to all children in Nigeria.
“The digital resources center that we are commissioning today, the digital resources center is a track event to our commitment to harnessing the power of technology to enhance the quality of Education across our nation and our response to global development and grants.
“In today’s world information and communication technology are not merely tools but essentially drivers of progress and innovation.
It is in recognition of this milestone that we embarked on this ambitious project to ensure that our teachers and school administrators have access to resources and training they need to thrive and excel,” he said.
Bobboyi further ascertained that the center will create an environment where students can benefit from the latest Educational technology ensuring that they receive quality education comparable to their pair in other parts of the world.
