As part of effort to ensure that children have access to education, the federal government said over 11,000 out-of-school children in the Federal Capital Territory will be enrolled in schools by September 2024.
The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, disclosed this on Tuesday while taking a tour of the FCT Smart School in Karshi alongside the Minister of State for Education, Tanko Sununu.
“Over 11,000 Almajiris were identified by the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education in the Federal Capital Territory alone, and they will be enrolled in different schools across the country by September,” he said.
Mamman said that the government plans to establish at least one smart school in each of the 36 states of the federation. So far, 26 smart schools have been completed, with construction underway for the remaining ones adding that the teachers of the schools will contribute to the development of what the kids would be taught.
“This is part of the legacy this government is delivering to Nigerians, which is to make provision for a digitalised school system for pupils to be trained in the use of technology right from kindergarten to basic and junior secondary school,”he added
Earlier, the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education, along with Commissioners of Education from northern states, vowed to visit the six area councils in Abuja to identify and register a minimum of 10,000 out-of-school children before the September deadline.
