FG to set up blood collection centres in 774 local government areas

In addressing the shortages of blood in the country during Emergency, The Federal Government has revealed plans to establish Blood Collection Centres across all 774 local government areas, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This was e Head of Media and Publicity for the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA), Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement released on Saturday in Abuja.

The statement highlighted remarks from the NBSA Director-General, Prof. Saleh Yuguda, who emphasized the initiative by the government is a critical step towards saving lives.

Prof. Yuguda stated, “We are working tirelessly to ensure that blood needs are adequately addressed, and this initiative is a significant step towards achieving that goal.

“NBSA has partnered with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to establish a formidable blood bank at the Corp’s medical facility.

“This collaboration aims to mitigate blood shortages during medical emergencies and provide critical support to sister security agencies.”

He also noted that to launch the blood collection initiative, the FCT will host several strategically located blood collection facilities which he said that These centers are expected to boost blood donation rates and ensure a consistent supply of blood for medical use.

“This move is expected to increase blood donation rates and ensure a steady supply of blood for medical purposes.

“The establishment of blood collection centres across Nigeria is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving the country’s healthcare system.

“As the project rolls out, Nigerians should expect improved access to blood transfusions and better health outcomes.” He added.
