A generous donation of N8 million has been made to cover the cost of surgery for Rachel Idowu, a 16-year-old secondary school student suffering from a congenital heart defect. The donation was facilitated by Dr. Dayo Israel, Chairman of the Board of Management at Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
Rachel was born with lung complications, which have significantly impacted her growth, school participation, and daily life. Her situation changed when Dr. Israel brought her case to the attention of his friend, Mr. Olawale Ayilara, who immediately covered the cost of her surgery.
Dr. Israel expressed his gratitude, saying, “My very good friend, Mr. Ayilara, instantly paid the N8 million being the estimated cost of the surgery.” Mr. Ayilara thanked God for the opportunity to assist and called on others to support one another for a better world.
Rachel and her mother, Mrs. Modupe Idowu, were overwhelmed with gratitude, saying, “We had lost every hope because there was no way we could have raised the surgery fee.” The Medical Director, Prof Adewale Musa-Olomu, noted that the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta performs over 40% of open heart surgeries in Nigeria.
Dr. Israel renewed his call for support, saying, “I invite you all to visit us and see how you can help us grow the Centre together.”
