Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dismissed claims circulating online that his administration budgeted billions of naira for a so-called “Happy Hour” policy.
Speaking on Arise Television on Friday, Eno clarified that his remark on “happy hour” had been misinterpreted and was never about encouraging alcohol consumption.
“I think it was taken completely out of context. Happy hour, to me, means that if you work hard, you should find time occasionally to relax.
“Like today, I’ve been working back-to-back since Sunday, and I said today, I just want to relax. That, for me, is my happy hour,” the governor explained.
He added that the concept simply referred to moments of relaxation or celebration after achievements, whether at home, in church, or in everyday life.
“It wasn’t really meant to be a time to go get drunk. What kind of happy hour is that? I don’t know. I don’t have such subhead in my budget,” he stressed.
Eno further noted that Akwa Ibom people are naturally cheerful, saying: “I am happy. And we all seem to be a happy state. We are happy people.”
