As an observer group on security-related matters in the country, it is disheartening to note that the present head of the intelligence response team is weak and acting below standard with credible information that he has severally released arrested bandits as well as kidnap suspects due to tribalism.
Salihu Dantata Mahmud, secretary general of the Arewa Youths for Peace and Security stated this during his monthly appraisal of performance of the various specialised squads of the Police.
“If the current head of the intelligence response team cannot do the job, let the IG appoint a more capable and result-oriented officer to replace him. Even within the fct here, we are now experiencing related cases of kidnap.
If the head of the IRT is gallant and serious, it would have been curbed. From my investigations, most officers of the IRT have been working and making arrests of suspected bandits and kidnappers but the head later releases them due to tribalism which ought not to be.”
IGP Egbetokun should relieve the IRT head of his appointment, and replace him with a better person in his restructuring drive.
