Jigawa State is on the path to economic transformation as it partners with Saudi Arabia to harness the vast potential of date palm cultivation.
Governor Umar Namadi, while hosting a Saudi delegation led by agricultural experts at the Government House in Dutse, emphasized the initiative’s potential to create jobs, boost agricultural output, and position Jigawa as a major player in Nigeria’s date production industry.
The collaboration, facilitated by Nigeria-based Netay Agro-Tech, marks a strategic move towards agricultural diversification. Governor Namadi highlighted that leveraging Saudi Arabia’s expertise in date palm cultivation will not only enhance food security but also open new revenue streams for the state.
“We are excited about this partnership and are committed to providing the necessary support to make it a success.
“This partnership is expected to boost agricultural productivity and economic growth in the region. Date palm cultivation is a significant aspect of Saudi Arabia’s agricultural sector, and the country is considered one of the top three date-producing countries in the world”, Namadi stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing the necessary resources to ensure the project’s success.
Head of the Saudi delegation, Mr. Abdul’aziz Abdurrahman Al-Awf, underscored the importance of knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and modern farming techniques that will elevate Jigawa’s agricultural sector. “Our visit to Jigawa aims to further deliberate on a proposed date palm production initiative in the state.” he said.
With date palm cultivation playing a crucial role in Saudi Arabia’s agricultural sector, Jigawa stands to benefit immensely from this partnership. The initiative is expected to increase local production, reduce unemployment, and improve the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
As Jigawa embraces this innovative agricultural drive, stakeholders anticipate that the project will position the state as a leading hub for date palm production in Nigeria, fostering economic prosperity for years to come.
