In a decisive move to uphold electoral integrity, security operatives in Kaduna State apprehended a suspected vote-buyer, Shehu Aliyu Patangi, in the early hours of Saturday.
Patangi was found in possession of ₦25,963,000 in cash, allegedly intended to influence voters during the state’s bye-elections.
The arrest occurred around 3:30 a.m. at a well-known hotel along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis. The operation was a collaborative effort between the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS). Preliminary investigations suggest that the substantial sum was earmarked for bribing eligible voters in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency election.
During interrogation, Patangi confessed to the crime and pleaded for leniency. The Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest and the suspect’s admission.
Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the synergy among security agencies and issued a stern warning: “Anyone found attempting to undermine the electoral process will face the full wrath of the law.”
The police have assured residents of adequate security measures before, during, and after the elections, urging citizens to exercise their voting rights peacefully and without fear of intimidation.
