Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, is advocating for justice after her sister, Ruth Otabor, suffered severe injuries leading to leg amputation following an accident involving a Dangote Cement truck in Auchi, Edo State.
Phyna, is using her platform to advocate for justice for her sister, with support from activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), amid a troubling rise in truck-related accidents across Nigeria.
The incident occurred just six days after Ruth graduated from Auchi Polytechnic. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck ran over her leg, and the driver attempted to flee but was apprehended by a bystander.
This issue has gained significant online attention, with many activists speaking out against it including popular figures like Kate Henshaw, VDM and others.
In response to public outcry, Dangote Group issued a statement
“Following the recent road accident in Auchi, Edo State, involving one of our trucks, which sadly resulted in injury to Mrs. Ruth Otabor, senior officials from Dangote Cement Plc, together with our Insurance team, promptly visited the scene, engaged with law enforcement authorities, and visited the victim and her family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo State.
This action reflects our unwavering commitment to the well-being of those affected. We are ensuring full support for Mrs. Otabor, including comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation, in line with Dangote Group’s welfare policy.
Our thoughts remain with Mrs. Ruth Otabor and her loved ones, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery.”
Despite the company’s assurances, Phyna expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that Dangote’s representatives took unauthorized photographs of her sister during a hospital visit and shared them publicly. She emphasized the need for privacy and respect during this challenging time.
Her case is so pathetic behind that she is a fresh graduate, with dreams it is a call up to people in government both at the state and federal level to take measures against heavy duty drivers who drives recklessly
