The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party in Ondo State, Olabisi Adu-Okunniyi, has strongly condemned the widespread vote buying and ballot box snatching that marred the recent governorship elections in Ondo State.
Speaking after a consultative meeting with other political stakeholders held to assess the integrity of the last governorship elections in the State,
Adu-Okunniyi was reacting to a viral video confession of a local woman who admitted receiving payment from the APC for her vote.
She described the electoral malpractices as a “huge shame and mockery” to Nigerian democracy, emphasizing that the true will of the people cannot be achieved through corrupt means .
The Labour Party and Obi-dient Movement have resolved to establish a shadow team to mobilize the people of Ondo State, particularly youths and civil society, to hold those in power accountable and prevent the exploitation of poverty for electoral gains.
“As stakeholders, we cannot afford to sleep on our rights,” Adu-Okunniyi said. “We must rescue democracy from predatory politicians who seek to impoverish our people for their own gain.”
“Democracy is Too Precious to be Bought” she added.
