The lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, Senator Ali Ndume, has called on President Bola Tinubu to focus his administration’s efforts on three critical areas: security, welfare of citizens, and the economy.
He made the call on Friday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.
Ndume emphasized that the President should channel his energy entirely into addressing these key issues.
“Let the President forget about everything and concentrate on three things – security, welfare of citizens and economy,” he stated.
During a national broadcast, President Tinubu declared a six-month suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the State House of Assembly.
Ndume also suggested that a state of emergency should be declared in these sectors to underscore their urgency.
“His attention should go there as number one, then he should create a state of emergency in those areas,” he added.
Commenting on the political situation and the handling of certain government officials, the senator advised the President to engage stakeholders directly rather than resorting to drastic actions.
“I feel that the President would have worked seriously on bringing them and solving the problem than declaring a state of emergency. Call them, seat them down and say ‘go and sort your problem,’” he said.
Ndume further questioned the defiance of some political figures, suggesting that their current stance would not have been maintained had the President taken stronger actions. “How can you ignore the President? When he removed them now, did they ignore the removal?” he asked.
The senator’s remarks come amid increasing calls for the government to intensify efforts in addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
