President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Professor Benjamin Okaba, has criticised the current state of Nigerian politics, describing Nigerian Political parties as platforms for political contestations.
Okaba comment followed reports that suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, could defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief programme, Okaba said there’s nothing wrong if Fubara joins APC.
His words: “At this point, we must be realistic and have an understanding of Nigerian politics. We don’t have political parties anymore, but platforms for political contestation.”
“What we have are just platforms put together for people to transmit or oscillate from one place to another,” Okaba remarked. “If we have state governors and former vice-presidential candidates of parties just moving on, to the extent that one of the governors said, ‘If you don’t move with me, I will sack you,’ then what do we really have left?”
