The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has taken swift action to ensure the safety of its members by pulling all corps members from Mbaa community in Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State, following a series of deadly attacks.
The decision follows reports that armed herders attacked the area, killing over 20 individuals, including 16 farmers whose bodies were later discovered in River Katsina-Ala.
The NYSC Benue State chapter, in a statement by Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations, Yahuza Adamu, reassured concerned parents and guardians, emphasizing that all stationed corps members were accounted for and unharmed.
Despite the escalating violence in the region, Adamu assured the public that no new assignments would be given to Mbaa community until the security situation improves.
The NYSC continues to collaborate closely with security agencies to monitor and mitigate risks in the area. The Corps has also ensured that members stationed in other parts of the state, such as Jato Acka Turan, remain safe and unaffected by the unrest.
Highlighting the organization’s commitment to the welfare of corps members, Adamu stressed that proactive measures would continue to be implemented, and families were urged to rely on official NYSC updates for information regarding their loved ones’ safety.
“In fact, as a matter of policy, NYSC consistently takes proactive steps to mitigate risks and ensure that Corps Members receive the necessary protection at all times.
“We assure parents and guardians that NYSC Benue State remains vigilant and committed to the welfare of all its Corps Members and will continue to work with security agencies to ensure their safety at all times.
“Parents and guardians are encouraged to obtain accurate updates from NYSC official channels.” The statement reads.
