The journalism community in Ogun State is mourning the unexpected loss of veteran broadcaster Bukola Agbakaizu, who tragically collapsed and died on Monday while preparing for her afternoon shift at Ogun State Television (OGTV) in Abeokuta.
Bukola Agbakaizu, aged 52, was a dedicated journalist and a former Vice Chairman of the OGTV Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). She was also an ex-Officio member of the NUJ Ogun State Council until her untimely passing.
According to a statement issued by Mr. Bunmi Adigun, Secretary of the NUJ Ogun State Council, Agbakaizu collapsed while preparing for her afternoon shift. Despite immediate efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre.
“Her vibrant spirit and commitment to journalism will be sorely missed, leaving an irreplaceable void in our community,” the statement read.
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State chapter, expressed deep sorrow over her death. Chairperson Sekinat Salam described Agbakaizu as a consummate and dedicated journalist whose compassion and passion for the profession were evident to all who knew her.
“Her death came when her experience and exemplary leadership would be needed by the association,” Salam noted.
Agbakaizu is survived by her two children, her aged mother, and numerous colleagues and friends who mourn her loss.
“Her compassion towards others, dedication, love, and passion for the pen profession will always be remembered and cherished by all,” said Sekinat Salam, Chairperson of NAWOJ Ogun State.
