A tragic incident occurred on June 9, 2024, when a prank gone wrong resulted in the death of Ifunanya Miracle, a fresh graduate of Quantity Surveying at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

She was fatally injured after jumping out of a moving tricycle to escape a perceived robbery. Her friend, Peace, a student of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, sustained injuries and was hospitalized.

The incident happened when a fellow passenger, allegedly a final-year student, attempted to rob them of their valuables. However, the university spokesperson, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, confirmed that the incident was not a robbery but a prank gone wrong.

He said “The families of the victims and the student who pranked them have reached an agreement, and the university has warned students against dangerous pranks.”

“The university regrets the incident, and the student who pranked the victims will face disciplinary measures after the burial of the deceased. The school has urged students to avoid expensive pranks that can lead to death or injury. The incident has left the university community in shock, and the deceased’s friends and family are still grieving her loss”.

In the same vein a student who prefers to be anonymous said “Miracle usually pack her business stuff under the staircase in our compound and the stuff is still there. She packed it and put it back there in the evening. But all of a sudden, we just heard that she was dead.

“We were like how; she still dropped her stuff under the staircase of our compound on Monday. From what we gathered, she was on a moving tricycle with her friend when a fellow passenger, ordered them to give him their phones.

While trying to escape, Miracle jumped out”.
