Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, accompanied by his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, cast his vote at Polling Unit 006, Ward E, St. Stephens Nursery and Primary School, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island, during the local government elections.
The governor emphasized the importance of grassroots participation, urging residents to vote in group to shape the leadership of their local councils.
The local government elections, organized by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), are being conducted across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas. Voters are electing chairmen and councillors who will oversee local governance and development initiatives.
Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significance of these elections, stating, “This election is not just a constitutional process; it is a powerful expression of your voice and your civic responsibility; it is your right.”
He further urged eligible voters to participate actively, noting that local councils play a vital role in delivering essential services and fostering community development.
Voting commenced at 8:00a.m., with electoral officials and security personnel present to ensure a smooth and peaceful process.
The elections are expected to conclude by 3:00p.m., with results anticipated to be announced subsequently.
