Hon. Gloria Sarauniya Usman has resigned her membership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing persistent leadership challenges and a lack of direction within the party.In a resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the SDP in Gwarinpa, Abuja Municipal Area Council, Usman said her decision followed “careful consideration” of the party’s current state at both local and national levels.
She pointed to what she described as a “persistent leadership crisis” and “evident lack of cohesive, decisive, and purposeful direction,” which she said had weakened internal democracy, party structures, and eroded the confidence of members and supporters.
Usman, who served as the SDP FCT Secretary, noted that despite her active contributions to the party’s growth in the Federal Capital Territory, she had become increasingly concerned about what she called a departure from the party’s core values of discipline, transparency, and collective leadership.
“The prevailing leadership shortcomings have made it increasingly difficult to align with the current trajectory of the Party,” she stated.
She added that for any political party to remain relevant and competitive, it must be guided by strong, visionary, and accountable leadership—qualities she said were currently lacking within the SDP.
While reaffirming her commitment to democratic ideals and grassroots development, Usman said she found it necessary to disengage in order to pursue a “more structured and progressive political path.”
She expressed appreciation to colleagues, stakeholders, and members for their support during her tenure and wished the party well in the future.
