Tinubu Supports Family of Late National Flag Designer with N30 Million Gift

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has provided a N30 million financial gift to the family of late Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, the designer of Nigeria’s national flag.

Tinubu who was represented by The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa Onilu, said the gesture is a testament to the nation’s appreciation for Akinkunmi’s iconic contribution to Nigeria’s identity.

While presenting the gift at the family’s Ibadan residence on January 30, 202 Onilu said the gifts underscores the government’s commitment to supporting the relatives of national heroes.

During the visit, Onilu also paid respects at Akinkunmi’s tomb, assuring the family that the federal government recognizes and values the late designer’s contribution to Nigeria’s national identity.

Akinkunmi, who passed away in 2023, designed Nigeria’s iconic green-white-green flag in 1959, a symbol that has since represented the country’s unity and sovereignty. The federal government’s gesture reaffirms its recognition of his lasting impact on the nation.
