A heated argument between two relatives turned tragic in Lagos on Monday, resulting in one cousin fatally stabbing the other. The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued by Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin.
According to the police, a woman reported that her son, Ganiyu Ibrahim, and her nephew, Afeez Akeem, were engaged in a misunderstanding that escalated into a physical confrontation. The altercation occurred around 7 a.m. when Ganiyu allegedly broke a bottle and stabbed Afeez on the left side of his chest.
“As a result, Ganiyu broke a bottle and stabbed Afeez on the left side of his chest. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” Hundeyin said.
The police spokesman noted that the family declined an autopsy, opting to bury Afeez according to Islamic rites. The suspect, Ganiyu, is currently at large, and the police are working to apprehend him.
“The suspect is at large. Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing suspect,” Hundeyin added.
This incident comes on the heels of another tragic stabbing incident in Lagos earlier this month, where 25-year-old Chibunma Chimelie allegedly stabbed his 68-year-old father to death.
The police are urging anyone with information on Ganiyu’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in bringing the suspect to justice.
