Ondo State Police command said it has lunched investigation into the fire that claimed the lives young siblings on Wednesday in Akure, Ondo State.
Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, revealed this in a statement while confirming the incident, she said “We have commenced an investigation and will work tirelessly to determine the cause of the fire and ensure justice is served.”
The Tragedy which happened in the Oluwatuyi area, on Wednesday when a mother left her two children, Jelad Oluwaranakinse, 5, and Jenson Oluwaranakinse, 3, locked inside their apartment while she stepped out to buy food, only for a devastating fire to break out, claiming the young siblings’ lives.
Despite a prompt response from the state fire service, the flames had already destroyed the apartment by the time they arrived. The remains of the two children were subsequently recovered and transported to the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital morgue in Akure.
Eyewitnesses reported that Mrs. Deborah Oluwaranakinse, the mother of the two children, had left them locked inside their apartment while she went out to purchase food. When the fire broke out, neighbors rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue the children and extinguish the flames. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain.
As one eyewitness stated that “The fire erupted suddenly, and although people tried to put it out, it was too late. The children were trapped inside, and despite the neighbors’ best efforts, they couldn’t be saved.”
