The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has successfully rescued nine pregnant women from a baby factory in Abuja.
According to a statement released by NAPTIP’s Press Officer, Vincent Adekoye, the rescue operation took place at a sprawling estate in the Ushafa area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The agency’s operatives acted on a tip-off from a concerned citizen, leading to the discovery and shutdown of the illicit facility.
The Director General emphasized that the judgment will serve as a warning to others, and NAPTIP will not hesitate to take action against anyone who violates its laws, regardless of their status .
She reiterated that the agency will not spare anyone found guilty of human trafficking or violence against persons.
Adekoye also said that the Director-General of the agency, Binta Adamu-Bello, has commended the judiciary for securing a landmark conviction against Bishop Kenneth Duke.
Bishop Duke was found guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl, the daughter of one of his church members, in Abuja, and was subsequently sentenced.
The DG also stressed the severity of rape, highlighting its lasting psychological impact and trauma on victims. She urged everyone to join forces in condemning this heinous crime and ensuring the protection of children.
The Director General expressed relief that the Judiciary has delivered a fitting punishment to the convict, emphasizing the gravity of the crime committed by a 52-year-old man against a 12-year-old girl.
