Months of political tension in Rivers State came to a dramatic end in Thursday night as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor, Nyesom Wike, confirmed that he and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, have reconciled following a peace meeting brokered by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
In a landmark development aimed at ending Rivers State’s protracted political crisis, Wike disclosed that all disputes between him and Governor Siminalayi Fubara had been resolved.
Speaking to journalists after a reconciliation meeting with Tinubu, Wike said both parties had committed to a unified front for the sake of the state’s stability and progress.
“We are members of the same political family. The peace agreement is final, I acknowledge the strain the political feud has placed on governance, it is now behind us.
The Minister called on their political supporters to embrace the reconciliation and work collectively toward unity, urging an end to all hostility.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara appreciated God for the peace accord.
“The peace accord is essential for the development of the oil-rich state.
By the special grace of God, with the help of Mr. President and the agreement of the leaders of the state, peace has returned to Rivers State.”
Fubara pledged to do all within his power to uphold the unity restored during the presidential mediation.
“We’ll do everything within our power to make sure that we sustain it this time around,” he assured.
